POMPANO BEACH – 6/17/2015 – During her studies at Nova Southeastern University and even before then, Dr. Marlene Aramburu envisioned working with seniors in a home-like environment.
The famous saying: “There is no place like home,” provides a model for not only a holistic-like quality of care but also a quality of life. Today this model has begun for our elderly; tomorrow may be expanded across the continuum of care.
A board certified osteopathic family physician and Geriatric Medicine practitioner working with Broward Health Physician Group, Dr. Aramburu will have that opportunity when our new health center, The Woodlands at John Knox Village, opens its doors in 2016.
Recently, Dr. Aramburu became our new Medical Director at John Knox Village.
“The team is excited to have Dr. Aramburu as our Medical Director. Our residents and staff have always spoken highly of her and appreciate her warmth, compassion and willingness to take the time to speak to them,” said Mark Rayner, Director of Health Facilities. “It is clear she is passionate about The Woodlands at John Knox Village and embraces The Green House model principles.”
In her new role, Dr. Aramburu will be providing guidance and assistance to our Health Center in matters related to resident care and quality of life. She also will oversee some of the health policies at John Knox Village, as well as attend regular meetings to discuss ways to improve the quality of care.
She is looking forward to the day when she can visit her patients, many of them current residents, in The Woodlands at John Knox Village.
“When I was told that John Knox Village was adopting The Green House model of care, it was like a dream come true. It is a completely new way of providing care for our seniors, instead of the hospital model,” she said.
Born in Lima, Peru, Dr. Aramburu was a Dental Assistant Technician with the United States Air Force. She completed her Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at NSU and is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, American Academy of Family Physicians and American Medical Directors Association.
Throughout her medical academic years, she completed a variety of research and case presentations in topics such as stroke, Wellens-Syndrome, hypertension and best care practices in the geriatric continuum.
Dr. Aramburu first became aware of John Knox Village when she visited as a student in 2006. Five years later, she started with the Broward Health District and began seeing some of our residents in the Health Center.
“I am highly impressed by the staff at John Knox Village,” she said. “The employees make providing care easier for the residents and are very professional. Working as a team is what makes us excel at delivering quality of care.”
It was Rayner who recommended her for the Medical Director position. “We look forward to our partnership with Dr. Aramburu, as we continually strive to provide the best quality of care with ‘Meaningful Life in a Loving Home,’” he said.
A mother of three, Dr. Aramburu enjoys playing guitar, singing and meditating in her spare time.
Once open, The Woodlands at John Knox Village, a $34 million project, will be Florida’s first skilled nursing center to adopt The Green House model of care.
This innovative, nationally recognized initiative was founded by THE GREEN HOUSE® Project. It acknowledges the individuality of seniors and honors their autonomy, choice, privacy and dignity. It’s a new level of person-centered care that gives seniors meaningful life in a loving home and empowers staff dedicated to protecting, sustaining and nurturing the lives of our seniors.
The building will feature of total of seven floors and 144 private rooms and bathrooms. Each of the top six floors will have two Green House homes that will accommodate 12 seniors per home for short-term rehabilitative services and long-term nursing care. The first floor features a multi-purpose convocation room, bistro, rehabilitation services, a spa and an area for training purposes.
