The evening began with a gracious “Hello” from a humble couple and servants of God – Orville and Marie Brink. I congratulated Orville on being a Silver Angel Award recipient. His response was, “It’s an honor to serve.”
In early June, John Knox Village recognized 11 Silver Angel Award honorees who have volunteered their time, talents and even financial resources to various faith-based organizations in our greater community this past year.
The stories shared about these special individuals that evening allowed me to imagine the tremendous opportunities we all have to make a difference in the lives we lead, no matter our age.
Surrounded by residents, family members, staff and Board members who volunteer their time and talents both at John Knox Village and in the greater community, we answer the call to serve others and celebrate the difference a person can make.
The impact of our volunteerism was further highlighted and evidenced this past month in hearing stories told by the nonprofit organizations helped by our Sharing and Caring Program at the 2nd Annual Nonprofit Breakfast. As a nonprofit organization, John Knox Village is committed to bettering the greater Pompano Beach and Broward County community.
The breakfast idea was inspired by Kathryn Viau, our retired Resident Services Director. The purpose was to support nonprofit organizations locally through networking and learning the “whys, whats and hows” these services provide resources to people in need within our community.
Our impact is real. We make a difference daily in the lives of children, older adults, veterans and the homeless through our annual commitments.
Gratitude is bestowed upon our compassionate leaders who are a part of the Sharing and Caring Committee. Thank you to Nanette Olson, Foundation Development Director and Committee Chair, as well as to her assistant, Odalys Rosua, for coordinating this important gathering.
If you are a current or past volunteer, thank you for making a difference. If you have been thinking of how you could share your time, talent and resources in one or more of the multiple volunteer opportunities, I encourage you to call me or Mary Sue McDermott, Administrative Assistant, at (954) 783-4021.
Consider supporting newcomers, where we connect new residents to John Knox Village and the greater community. Our recently appointed Wellness Committee will offer creative opportunities to brainstorm ideas for current and future programs.
Giving of ourselves is a benefit that is far reaching to all involved.
Gerald Stryker,
Chief Executive Officer.
